Hanoi & Ha Long Bay, Vietnam

According to local legend, Ha Long Bay was formed by the thrashing tails of dragons that were sent by the gods to help the Vietnamese people defend their land from invading Chinese forces. According to scientists, it was created by millions of years of erosion and geological evolution. No matter how it was fashioned, Lan Ha Bay is a unique wonder of the natural world—a precious open-air geological museum and UNESCO World Heritage Site. An exploration of the bay and its islands is the perfect way to launch your Mekong River adventure.

2022 Hanoi & Ha Long Bay Pre-Cruise/Tour Day to Day Overview (click here for details)

Day 1: Hanoi
Once you’ve cleared customs at Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi, you’ll be greeted by a Uniworld representative who will help you with your luggage and take you to your luxury hotel. After check-in, you may choose to rest at the hotel or go out and explore the city. Your local host will be happy to offer suggestions, but be sure to visit the nearby Kim Lien Pagoda. The 800-year-old temple, whose name means “golden lotus,” is considered the most beautiful in Hanoi.

Day 2: Ha Long Bay, Ao Ech
FEATURED EXCURSION: Kayak Ao Ech
After enjoying breakfast at your hotel in Hanoi, you’ll board a motorcoach that will carry you on a scenic drive to the bay, where you’ll be transferred by speed boat to board the luxurious Paradise Grand junk and begin your breathtaking cruise. Precipitous limestone pillars and isles—hundreds of them—rise out of the emerald water of the bay. Settle into your stateroom, then enjoy lunch with a matchless view as you sail among these astonishing formations, the result of eons of tides and rain. You will have time for optional kayaking around the beautiful Ao Ech area. Enjoy a delicious BBQ buffet dinner prepared by the boat’s chef. Afterward, relax on deck and enjoy more scenic sailing.

Day 3: Ha Long Bay, Viet Hai
FEATURED EXCURSION: Viet Hai Village Visit
Welcome your second day onboard Paradise Grand with a Tai Chi session on the sundeck as the sun rises. The first destination is Viet Hai village. You can explore the majestic landscapes and the simple life of local people there by going cycling or hopping in an electric car. We’ll pass by a fish farm and bee houses, experience a fishpond foot massage, and sit for lunch on the boat. After Viet Hai, you can visit Castaway Island with a swimming and/or kayaking trip. Return to the ship for dinner.

Day 4: Ha Long Bay, Hanoi
FEATURED EXCURSION: Dark and Bright Cave
Early this morning, participate in Tai Chi on the sundeck and enjoy a light breakfast prior to your excursion.

The karst islands of the bay are dotted with caves. Join an early-morning excursion to one of the most spectacular, the Dark and Bright Lagoon.

You will be transported there by locals rowing bamboo boats, or you can kayak at your own pace. This is a poetic and stunning location that acts as an access way to a beautifully tranquil lake, surrounded by walls of stones in different scales and sizes.

FEATURED EXCURSION: Hanoi City Tour
Back on board, a full breakfast will be served as we cruise back to the harbor for check-out. You will be transferred on a speedboat to return to Tuan Chau Marina. After our visit, you’ll disembark and return to Hanoi, where you’ll check back into your previous hotel.

Spend the day exploring a city some call Asia’s most beautiful. You’ll visit a complex honoring Ho Chi Minh, founder of modern Vietnam. Also on the agenda: the Temple of Literature, originally built as a Confucian temple in 1070 AD. Six years later on the same grounds, Vietnam’s first university was founded. Today, you can experience the tranquility of its beautiful gardens and pavilions. You can see another aspect of Vietnam’s history if you step into one of the dank cells at the notorious “Hanoi Hilton,” as Hoa Lo, a French colonial-era prison, was known to the American pilots who were held there as prisoners of war during the Vietnam War.

Before dinner, it’s time to hop aboard an electric car for a tour around the business district of the Old Quarter.

Day 5: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City
After breakfast, transfer from the hotel to the airport as you travel from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.

Pricing:

$1,679 per person (for 2 guests)

For solo travelers, there is a single supplement of $789.
